Touring the Kurpark

Thanks to Count Wilhelm IX of Hessen Kassel, who first recognised the significance of the sulphur water, the Kupark has its splendour. His court gardener Georg Wilhelm Homburg, who completed his studies in England, started in 1792 with the composition of the grounds.
203 trees, 33 varieties of roses and 37 shrub species were planted. And some of them can still be admired today. The Kurpark of Bad Nenndorf as historical Green enjoys the status of a cultural monument

The Kurpark – Oasis of Tranquillity

As opposed to nowadays hectic city life Bad Nenndorf presents itself right in the middle of the town with an oasis of tranquillity: The Kurpark is regarded as a retreat not to forget about stressful every day hustle.

Local and foreign tree species form the impressing area of the Kurpark. Some are as ancient as 200 years, when Court gardener Georg Wilhelm Homburg first started to lay out the park after 2 years of training in England, getting to know the English method of designing parks. He eventually gave birth to what is now our 35 ha large Kurpark in the tradition of an English landscape garden. The “Schlösschen" was built in 1806 in pure classicism by the Count as a summer residence, where today weddings are celebrated and stylish chamber music can be heard. Nearby, walkers come across fossilized  traces of dinosaurs. A little sculpture shows the regional poet from East Prussia, Agnes Miegel, who spent her last years in Bad Nenndorf.

The “Landgrafenhaus” on the Kurpromenade was built in 1791/92. Der “Brunnentempel”  in front of the “Esplanade”  holds the first sulphur-brine spring.
Today the Kurpark is a stylish frame for exquisite Performances in the “Wandelhalle”. The “Kurmuschel” is the ideal platform for open-air concerts of the Pannonia Orchester.
Throughout the year there are events of all sorts, feasts, fun and action, markets, galas etc. –
with the Kurpark as the picturesque background.
Mini golf and garden chess  not forget the boule ground attract visitors and locals equally. For health seekers the sulphur drink in the “Wandelhalle” is a must. It tastes quite revolting but is supposed to do you the world of good, for it stimulates the blood circulation, digestion and immune system.
